upgrading to tas books v8 on a workgroup

There are just a few simple steps to upgrade your TAS BOOKS to version 8, but the process is different to how it's worked in the past - so to make sure your upgrade goes smoothly, it's important to make sure that everything is done in the right order.

Step 1: Install the TAS BOOKS v8 upgrade on your primary client computer
Step 2: Activate TAS BOOKS v8 on your primary client computer
Step 3: Upgrade your TAS BOOKS data on the primary client computer
Step 4: Install the TAS BOOKS v8 upgrade on your additional client computers
Step 5: Activate TAS BOOKS v8 on your additional client computers

A workgroup is small network of TAS BOOKS users that share their TAS BOOKS data. In general, a workgroup supports up to five TAS BOOKS users, but can be expanded to support a maximum of ten TAS BOOKS users.

One computer acts as a gateway and operates the central workgroup database 'engine'. All the computers with TAS BOOKS installed connect to the gateway to access your TAS BOOKS data.

Normally you would keep your TAS BOOKS data on a separate network server; this ensures the data is available to everyone.

If you don’t have a network server, you can now have a peer-to-peer workgroup.

Whichever setup you have, we call the computer that has the data the primary client computer. Other computers that have TAS BOOKS installed that share the data on the primary client computer are called additional client computers.

One change in the upgrade process for this version is that you will need to install a copy of TAS BOOKS on the computer where you store your TAS BOOKS data - the primary client computer. This is different to how TAS BOOKS has worked in previous versions - so it's important that you follow the steps below carefully.

Step 1: Install the TAS BOOKS v8 upgrade on your primary client computer

The primary client computer is the computer where you store your TAS BOOKS data.

In previous multi-user versions of TAS BOOKS, you didn't install a copy of the program on your primary client computer. One of the changes introduced by TAS BOOKS v8 is the central workgroup database 'engine' - which means you must install a copy of TAS BOOKS on primary client computer.

You'll need to log in to TAS BOOKS using the primary client computer at least once every 90 days. If your primary client computer is not easily accessible - or it is a server running a server operating system - you may wish to consider upgrading to a network edition of TAS BOOKS, as this may be more appropriate for your needs.
