Installing your TAS BOOKS v8 upgrade
Is it complicated?
Some of you have asked us "This new version, TAS BOOKS v8 with the Pervasive Summit database, it all sounds a bit technical - will it be really difficult for me to install it and upgrade my data?". Well don't worry, it really isn't difficult. We don't believe in making things complicated, so we've made sure it really is simple and straightforward to upgrade to TAS BOOKS v8.
Like many things, a little bit of preparation will help the process go smoothly. Some of the things you'll need to do are a bit different from how they've worked when upgrading to previous versions of TAS BOOKS; so it is important to do complete each step fully and in the correct order.

Things to check
- Check your TAS BOOKS setup. TAS BOOKS can be setup as a single computer, workgroup or network. You'll need to know which type of setup you have and make sure you have the appropriate TAS BOOKS licence for that type of setup. If you have a workgroup or network setup, you'll also need to make sure that you have a licence for the correct number of users.
- Check your system. Your computers and your network must meet the minimum system requirements to run TAS BOOKS.
- Check your version of Windows is up to date. Microsoft release regular updates and service packs for the different versions of Windows, which you may need in order to install TAS BOOKS v8. If the version of Windows you are using needs to be updated with a service pack, the TAS BOOKS installation wizard will let you know. We always recommend that you use Windows Update regularly to ensure that your copy of Windows has the latest updates to keep your system secure.
- Take a backup of your data before you start. A power cut when you're part-way through upgrading could damage your data beyond repair. So it's really important that you take a backup, just to be on the safe side.
- Make sure you are logged into Windows as an Administrator, or a user with full Administrator rights. Windows may request permission to install the program on your computer, or request an Administrator password.
- Allow yourself enough time. Once you start the process of upgrading to TAS BOOKS v8, no-one will be able to use TAS BOOKS until you have finished. In most cases, the actual upgrading of the data will only take a few minutes - but if you have been using TAS BOOKS for many years and your TAS BOOKS dataset is large, it could take an hour or more to upgrade the data to TAS BOOKS v8. So you might want to wait until the end of the working day before installing the upgrade.
- Make sure you have your TAS BOOKS v8 activation code. You will need to activate TAS BOOKS v8 before you can start using the program. If you have received the update as part of your TASCoverExtra subscription, you can find your activation code on the despatch label. If you don't have the new activation code to hand, you can email support@tassoftware.ie to obtain it. If you're upgrading to a network edition of TAS BOOKS, you'll also need a Pervasive Summit licence key. If you don't have it to hand, email support@tasoftware.ie for assistance.

There are just a few simple steps to upgrade your program;

TAS Books 1 operate on a single computer setup, where you have both the program and data installed on one computer. |
Step 1: Install your TAS BOOKS/Zebra upgrade
 |
Pop your upgrade CD into your CD drive. Most computers will run the CD automatically and display the TAS BOOKS 1 menu. (If your CD doesn't start automatically, then if your CD drive is the d: drive, run d:\setup.exe from your Windows start menu.) Choose Install Products from the menu. |

Choose Upgrade TAS BOOKS 1 from the menu.

The Installation Wizard appears. Click Next to start installing the upgrade. |

The TAS Software Licence Agreement appears. You must accept the terms of this licence before installing TAS BOOKS v8. A printed copy of the licence is included in your TAS BOOKS v8 Upgrade guide. Click Next to continue |

The Pervasive Licence Agreement appears. The Pervasive Summit database engine is incorporated as part of TAS BOOKS v8. You must accept the terms of this licence before installing your upgrade. Click Next to continue. |

The wizard will start installing your TAS BOOKS 1 v8 upgrade. This may take some time. |

After the wizard has upgraded your TAS BOOKS, you must restart your computer to ensure that all your system files are updated correctly. Choose 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' and click Finish. |
Step 2: Upgrade your TAS BOOKS 1 Data

After you have restarted your computer, double-click on the TAS BOOKS 1 icon on your Windows desktop. The first time you use the program after installing the upgrade, you will need to upgrade your data files. The upgrade window appears. Click OK to continue. |

If you did not take a backup of your data before installing the your upgrade, you MUST do so now. If you have already taken a backup, click OK to continue; otherwise click Cancel. |

TAS BOOKS will upgrade your data files to version 8 format. If your data files are large, this may take some time. |

When the upgrade has completed, you are now ready to use your new program. Click Yes to log into TAS BOOKS 1 as normal.

Step 3: Activate TAS BOOKS v8
You will need to activate TAS BOOKS v8 before you can start using the program. If you don't have the new activation code to hand, email support@tassoftware.ie to obtain it. |

Select Help > Activation from the menubar. The TAS BOOKS activation wizard appears. Enter your TAS BOOKS v8 activation code. Click Next to continue. |

The Activation Wizard will display the details of your TAS BOOKS licence. If the activation is unsuccessful, check you have entered your activation code, serial number and company name correctly. If you still need help, contact TAS Support on 1890 946 881 for assistance. Click Finish to close the Activation Wizard. |
