TAS BOOKS v8
How does Pervasive Summit compare
Pervasive Summit offers fantastic performance and great value-for-money – because it’s not only a fast and reliable database, it’s really cost-effective too. We chose to use it in TAS BOOKS v8 because we think its offers the best value-for-money in the market.
How much faster is Pervasive Summit?
We’ve said that Pervasive Summit is much faster than Btrieve – but exactly how much faster? And what does all this mean to you? So we did some tests to see just how much faster Pervasive Summit v10 is compared to Btrieve in the real world.
We didn’t use a super-fast state-of-the-art computer, just an ordinary one that we’d had around the office for a couple of years. Our computer was running Windows XP, with a 2.5GHz processor and 512MB memory.
Obviously every system is different and everbody has a different mixture of transactions types, so you may not see performance improvements on the same scale.
We set up 1,146 sales orders in TAS BOOKS (including using a variety of salesperson, marketing and project costing codes) and set the program to print and post them. Using Btrieve, it took 35 minutes and 12 seconds to post all the sales orders (or 1.85 seconds per sales order).
Then we upgraded our computer to Pervasive Summit and set up another 1,146 sales orders, with exactly the same details. When we set TAS BOOKS to print and post the sales orders it took just 2 minutes 57 seconds (or 0.15 seconds per sales order).
Firewalls and anti-virus software can also affect your computer’s performance. So we repeated our tests after installing Norton 360 – a popular anti-virus and firewall program. Again, setting up the exactly same sales order information, it took 42 minutes 46 seconds (or 2.24 seconds per sales order) to post the sales orders with Btrieve. With Pervasive Summit it took just 3 minutes 9 seconds (0.16 seconds per sales order).
